A product category is not a diagnosis
CRM usually covers customers and sales, ERP manages resources and operations, while a bespoke system can combine non-standard logic. In real companies these boundaries overlap. A request for “a CRM” often hides a problem with order handover, documents, inventory or delivery control.
When an off-the-shelf product is enough
A ready-made service works when the process is standard, the team can follow its logic and the required integrations already exist. It offers a faster start and lower initial cost. The compromise becomes expensive when people build workaround spreadsheets, duplicate data or pay for unused modules.
When a bespoke system is justified
Custom development makes sense when the process creates a competitive advantage or cannot fit a standard model. Do not design a huge platform immediately. Begin with the core data, roles, statuses and one key workflow, then add modules after the central logic works in practice.
